Schwarz Ranked Among County's Top Leaders

SUNY Purchase President Thomas Schwarz is among a handful of Westchester difference makers selected as a top boss or leader by the website 914inc.

Chris McWilton, president of U.S. markets for Purchase-based MasterCard Worldwide, also made the list.

Schwarz, who took over as president at Purchase 10 years ago, is credited with turning around the school with a more focused approach on education, branding and overall direction, according to the site.

The school's plan to use part of its campus for a senior living facility drew particular praise. Governor Andrew Cuomo that will use about 40-acres for the facility. The project is geared toward building a larger audience for Purchase's on-campus performances while building financial aid revenue for students.

McWilton drew praise for his strategy of hiring the right people and avoiding micromanagement. The 53-year-old told the website his key to success includes challenging his managers, but empowering them to make difficult decisions on their own.

The list of top bosses and leaders included 14 men and women from throughout Westchester County.
