Westchester County Airport Adds Temporary Parking Spots For Holidays

The airport will add 60 seasonal spots for holiday travelers, but they could still use your help to make flying out of town easier for all.

HPN officials are urging travelers to use online parking reservations to secure parking spots ahead of time, especially during the high-demand holiday travel period.

WESTCHESTER, NY — Westchester County Airport (HPN) announced that it will be taking special measures to ensure a "seamless and stress-free experience" during the anticipated surge in passenger volume next week for Thanksgiving.

During peak travel season, the lots and garages at Westchester County Airport can sometime look more like parking at a music festival with cars in every conceivable parking spot (and a few places that aren't parking spots). Airport officials have a plan to make getting to your flight a little easier this holiday travel season, but they could use your help.

HPN will be temporarily repurposing existing space to create 60 parking spots, bringing the total number of parking spaces at the airport to 1,675. Officials noted that this temporary increase is not an expansion, but will be necessary during the peak holiday travel period.

The temporary spaces will be located in two areas: one next to the long-term/overflow parking area and the other near the existing parking garage. These spaces will be operated by the parking garage vendor, and the revenue generated will be shared with the county, according to their existing lease agreement.

The airport says there are a few things travelers can do to make parking at the airport over the holidays less of a headache for everyone.

Officials strongly urge travelers to use online reservations to guarantee their parking spots ahead of time, especially during the high-demand Thanksgiving travel period. In addition, travelers may also use the SUNY Purchase shuttle service or general car services, which would further reduce traffic congestion and improve the overall travel convenience.
