What Can Be Done With the Old Movie Theater?

The movie theater on Harrison Avenue has been vacant for years, what do you think can be done with the old building?

Vacant for at least the last 10 years, the old movie theater on Harrison Avenue has gone from a traditional weekend gathering spot to a popular place to dump garbage bags and leaves.

Proposals over the years for the building have included a small performing arts center and an independent movie theater, but nothing has gained much traction. More than a decade after closing its doors, the theater remains empty.

"It could really be something if someone put some time into it," said Ada Angarano, president of the Harrison Chamber of Commerce. "Now it's just an eyesore."

Angarano said she recalls several proposals over the years, some of which could have been successful if someone was willing to invest the time and money. Instead the doors remain locked as garbage bags accumulate near the entryway.

What do you think should be done with the old movie theater? Even if it's not practical, how would you like to see the building used?
