2 Men Arrested During Illegal Speed Contest In Suffolk: Police
The drivers were weaving in and out of traffic at more than 100 mph on the Long Island Expressway, police say.
ISLANDIA, NY — Two drivers were cited in connection with an illegal speed contest and reckless driving on Saturday night in Islandia, Suffolk police said.
Two Mercedes Benz sedans were traveling east on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 58, weaving in and out of traffic at more than 100 mph around 8:45 p.m., police said. The cars were spotted by members of the Suffolk County Police Street Takeover Task Force.
Officers safely stopped both vehicles and cited their drivers: 24-year-old men; one from Lloyd Harbor, and the other from West Babylon, police said. Both men were cited for an illegal speed contest, reckless driving, and multiple vehicle traffic law and Suffolk County law violations. They are set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Jan. 24.

Both vehicles, 2024 Mercedes Benz four-door sedans, were seized, police said.
