Driver Turns Off Car Lights At Night, Leads Suffolk Cops On Chase: PD

A BMW driver unlawfully fled from a car meet and then accelerated through multiple traffic signals to evade officers, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A vehicle was impounded in Shirley after a driver unlawfully fled from a car meet on Saturday night in Hauppauge, Suffolk police said.

Members of the Street Takeover Task Force tried to pull over a 2015 BMW M3 as it fled from the car
meet in a reckless manner at approximately 9 p.m., police said. The driver of the BMW, Clyde Jean Baptiste, 23, of Mastic Beach, turned off the vehicle’s lights and accelerated through multiple traffic signals while evading police, police said.

An officer from the Task Force found the vehicle traveling northbound on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and successfully pulled Baptiste over at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Baptiste was issued multiple vehicle and traffic law citations and the vehicle was impounded as evidence of unlawful fleeing from Saturday night’s incident, police said.
