Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Suffolk

The man was crossing the street early Saturday when he was hit by a car, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Hauppauge early Saturday, Suffolk police said.

A 24-year-old Smithtown man was driving a 2016 Ford Mustang eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when he struck a man who was crossing the street near the intersection of Schoolhouse Lane around 4:50 a.m., police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police are withholding the pedestrian's identity until next of kin is notified.

The driver was not injured, police said. The Mustang was impounded for a safety check.
