  1. The annual meeting of the Brooklyn Heights Alliance will take place Thursday, Feb. 24th, online. It will feature a discussion about climate change between two journalists. The association is planning to hand out awards to the Brooklyn Heights Community Fridge and Amerika Williamson, who spearheaded the Christmas tree lighting on the heights promenade.   2. Mayor Eric Adams' budget proposal nixes funding for the city's trademark curbside compost pickup program – which was in demand in Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. Adams said he wants to reassess and replace the program with something 'better.' (Brooklyn Paper)
  3. The Brooklyn House of Detention on Atlantic Avenue is coming down in the spring, to be replaced by a new, potentially larger jail, as part of the city's borough-based jail plan to replace Rikers Island. (New York City Patch)
