Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn Heights-DUMBO:

  1. In the latest police blotter for The Heights and DUMBO: a car was stolen on York St., another was broken into on Livingston St., and a gunman shot a man in the head in nearby Nicholas Nayquan Heyward Jr Park. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. Subway Service Alerts: service is suspended in both directions this weekend from High St., as A and C trains are diverted to the F line between Jay St./MetroTech and West 4th St. There should be minimal disruptions through next week.(Brooklyn Heights Blog)
  3. The child education facilitator, Imagine Early Learning Centers, has announced the renewal of its lease with the First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn Heights for the next 10 years. Imagine, which has been operating in the neighborhood at 50 Monroe St. for the past 25 years, is "proud to say that this negotiation will continue to serve the goals of both organizations for years to come." The Heights facility has six classrooms, a gym and a patio. (Commercial Observer)
  4. More details on BEACON: the new statue in Albee Square honoring the life of Black 19th century inventor and Brooklyn native Lewis H. Latimer. In addition to inventing the lightbulb filament, Latimer was an artist and the only Black inventor working under Thomas Edison. (Our Time Press)
  5. Last weekend marked the final community sail of the summer at the ONE15 Brooklyn Marina in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The marina's volunteers have been taking out community groups, and public school students to take a hand at sailing for the first time. In their words, "Sailing is a sport of giving."
