Teens Shot Near Borough Hall In Downtown Brooklyn

The unknown shooter left the scene on Adams Street, the NYPD said.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — An unknown shooter wounded two teens near Borough Hall in Downtown Brooklyn Monday afternoon, police said. A 911 call reported the shots at 3:40 p.m. at 345 Adams St., across from Borough Hall and the Brooklyn Supreme Court building, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

One victim, 18, was grazed in the abdomen and privately taken to Brooklyn Hospital, police said. The other man, 19, walked into the same hospital with a graze wound to his chest and right forearm, the NYPD said.

Both are not likely to die, police said. The shooting is still under investigation, according to police.

The shots sent people running into a nearby Shake Shack restaurant where they huddled on the floor, according to Twitter posts from one witness.

Kelli Trapnell said she was talking on the phone with her mother near that restaurant when she heard two gunshots a couple seconds apart. She hung up and sprinted away after she heard screaming and saw people running, she said.

"I heard somebody say the word 'gun' and then everybody started running," said Trapnell, a Greenpoint resident who had just finished jury duty at a nearby courthouse.

The second shot came long enough after the first that it seemed either the initial shooter hesitated before firing again, or a second shooter fired back in response, Trapnell said.
