DUMBO's Dilapidated Gold Street Gets a Pedestrian-Friendly Makeover
New safety infrastructure on Gold Street is meant to slow speeding traffic and protect pedestrians.
DUMBO, BROOKLYN — A brand-new, mid-block pedestrian crossing and an expanded concrete median have finally been installed along DUMBO's dangerous, dilapidated Gold Street between York and Sands streets, the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) announced Tuesday.
Local electeds will gather on Gold between York and Sands to reveal the new improvements this Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m.
The roadway, which runs between buildings in the public Farragut Houses complex, now features an enhanced pedestrian crossing — installed mid-block to make it easier for public-housing residents (and anyone else passing through) to cross the street.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will be joined by the NYC Department of Transportation's borough commissioner, Keith Bray, as well as members of Brooklyn's Community Board 2, at the unveiling Wednesday.
