Here are the top three stories in Brooklyn Heights-DUMBO today:

  1. Some Brooklyn Heights residents were shocked to hear the sirens of fire trucks descending on 75 Henry Street Friday night at 10 p.m., after a 'smoky fire' broke out on the building's fourth floor. The blaze was limited to a single apartment that was under renovation. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  2. The area surrounding Nevin and State streets used to be known as Little Caughnawaga, once a hub of Native American culture. Muriel Miguel, an alternative theater director, recalls growing up surrounding by her parents, both indigenous, and their friends, who met in an unsuspecting yellow Boerum Hill townhouse. Miguel's latest play, opening on March 10, "Misdemeanor Dream" (a take on "Midsummer Night's Dream"), tells the stories of indigenous peoples using a traditional "story weaving" technique. 3. Early on Sunday morning a reckless driver crashed into a war memorial on the West corner of Prospect Park, wrecking it. Some transit advocates say they would like the driver to be arrested, while one additional passenger of the car is at a hospital in stable condition. (Gothamist)
