Jared Kushner Buys Massive DUMBO Lot For $345 Million
85 Jay St. is Donald Trump's advisor's latest purchase in the neighborhood from the Jehovah's Witnesses.
DUMBO, BROOKLYN — Donald Trump's son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner officially closed a deal on a massive DUMBO parking lot owned by Jehovah's Witnesses for $345 million this week, his company announced. The deal comes just months after Kushner bought the Jehovah's Witnesses' headquarters nearby in Brooklyn Heights.
The 135,000-sq-ft parking lot at 85 Jay St. was formerly used as parking for a Jehovah's Witness church. Kushner's company acquired the lot in a joint venture with CIM Group and LIVWRK real estate companies and plans to make it into a "mixed-use project."
Kushner is slowly acquiring the entirety of DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights via the Jehovah's Witnesses. In October 2013, his company purchased the Jehovah's Witnesses' old printing plants from Watchtower Real Estate, which has become a modern office complex. In August 2016 Kushner purchased 2.3 acres of the Jehovah's Witnesses' Brooklyn Heights headquarters for $345 million.

Brooklyn Paper reported that back in 2004 the Jehovah's Witnesses had the lot rezoned to build four massive towers, but they never went through with building anything. Now Kushner can swoop in and build whatever he wants there, without following the usual Mandatory Inclusionary Housing requirements set forth by the de Blasio administration.
