Here are the top three stories today in Brooklyn Heights-DUMBO:
- Newly elected Councilman Lincoln Restler possesses the unique ability to bridge the gap between the range of Jewish communities residing within his district–from the ultra-Orthodox to progressives and reformists. He is himself Jewish, and during his campaign he garnered the endorsements from both Jews for Racial and Economic Justice and more conservative groups in Williamsburg. (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
- A journalist, Rebecca Ackerman, describes the newly formed market of NFTs (non-fungible tokens), which are unique digital images that can be bought and sold for profit, as similar to the work a developer does to cultivate a new real estate market. She uses the example of Two Trees Development's work in DUMBO, which they originally sold at a low price-point to artists, who were then slowly priced out. (The Week Magazine)
- Ideas abound for what to do with the BQE. At an exhibit on Governors Island, architects propose their visions. They range from more modest–changing the size and type of trucks on the expressway–to the more radical–why not turn the road into train tracks? Or an urban forest? (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
