Tuesday: Learn About Being 'American, Muslim and Female' in Brooklyn
A collection of writers, entertainers and activists will sit on a Brooklyn Historical Society panel moderated by educator Debbie Almontaser.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The Brooklyn Historical Society will host a panel discussion Tuesday night in which a local all-star cast of writers, activists and entertainers will reflect on the experience of being a Muslim woman in America.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Debbie Almontaser, founder of the Khalil Gibran International Academy in Boerum Hill, which provides high school-level instruction in English and Arabic.
The evening's panelists include:
- Kaye M., a student and writer who founded the #yesallwomen hashtag, dedicated to spreading awareness of physical, mental and sexual abuse faced by women the world over
- Negin Farsad, a comic, writer and actor who starred in "The Muslims Are Coming!"
- Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, founder of MuslimGirl.com, dedicated to issues important to young Muslim women
- Laila Alawa, founder of thetempest.co, promoting the voices of a diverse array of millennial women
