Four people were killed and one person was seriously injured in a series of tragedies on Long Island roadways over an 8-hour period Friday afternoon into early Saturday.

Evelyn Rodriguez, the mother of a teen who authorities say was murdered by MS-13 gang members in 2016, died after being struck by an SUV at 4:10 p.m. while at a memorial service for her daughter in Brentwood.

Suffolk Police say Rodriguez was involved in a dispute with the driver of an SUV regarding the placement of a memorial dedicated to Rodriguez's daughter, 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas, and 15-year-old Nisa Mickens, who were murdered near the location on Sept. 13, 2016. During the dispute, the driver attempted to leave the scene and her SUV struck Rodriguez, police said. No criminal charges have been filed.

Bicyclist Hit by SUV Seriously Injured

A 22-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by an SUV in St. James Friday evening, police said.

Nicholas McMahan was riding his bike eastbound on 5th Street when he collided with a 2018 Toyota 4Runner at the intersection with Moriches Road at 6:43 p.m. McMahan, of St. James, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Woman Killed in Head-on Crash

A 52-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash in Medford Friday night, police said. Laura Couleas was driving a 1995 Honda east on Horseblock Road on the overpass of Long Island Avenue when the Honda crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2011 Mitsubishi Suburban heading west on Horseblock Road driven by Shelia Banos at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Couleas, of Medford, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Banos, 20, of Sanford, N.C., suffered minor injuries.

Pedestrian Dies After Crash Between Trailer, Car

A 68-year-old California man died after being struck by an object that flew off a trailer after it collided with a car in Dix Hills Friday night, police said. Jose Marroquin was standing on Heather Court helping his 31-year-old daughter back a Penske Box Truck with a trailer onto Carlls Straight Path when a 2017 Honda traveling northbound on Carlls Straight Path hit the trailer at 10:50 p.m.

An unspecified object from the trailer struck Marroquin, who was transported by the Dix Hills Fire Department to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

Jeep Fatally Strikes Pedestrian

A 37-year-old man was struck and killed by a Jeep in Hicksville early Thursday. According to Nassau Police, Franklin Campos-Rodriguez was in front of 16 Newbridge Road when he was hit by the Jeep at 12:06 a.m. Campos-Rodriguez, of Uniondale, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 26-year-old man driving the Jeep remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
