Alleged Latin Kings Member Resists Arrest; Officers Injured: PD

The Long Island man was arrested following an assault at a gas station, police say.

An alleged Latin Kings gang member was arrested after police say he was involved in an assault and resisted arrest, injuring police officers, in Westbury on Wednesday.

Police responded to Speedway Gas Station, located at 880 Old Country Road, for the report of an assault involving 33-year-old Freeport resident Juan Taveras at 6:36 p.m.

Officers attempted to place Taveras under arrest when he began to resist and fought with the officers, police say.

Police say the officers suffered injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Taveras was placed under arrest and also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, second-degree resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. He will be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
