Hicksville Students Graduate From Adelphi University

GARDEN CITY, NY — Adelphi University held its 126th commencement ceremonies to recognize graduates on May 23 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and awarded more than 1,700 undergraduate and graduate degrees.

"These degrees today seem different, more memorable," Adelphi President Christine M. Riordan, PhD, told the graduating class. "Our students' journeys have been full of plenty of challenges over the last couple of years — this class has been through a lot, but they've also done a lot. Your strength and determination has been admirable."

The May commencement was the first time in two years that the school was able to award degrees to its entire graduating class at once.

Among those getting degrees were the following students from Hicksville:

• Emily Alfonso, majoring in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, Departmental Honors and Psi Chi (Psychology Honorary)
• Avneet Kaur, majoring in Management, Bachelor of Business Administration
• Andrew Weiss, majoring in Theatre Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Cum Laude and other honors including Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honorary and the Performing Arts Senior Award
• Katie McDevitt, majoring in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude
• John Moyer, majoring in Nursing, Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude
• Zalak Shah, majoring in Nursing, Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude
• Aayushi Patel, majoring in Biology, Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude
• Daya Gyawali, majoring in Nursing, Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude and with School Honors
• Gurkirat Singh, majoring in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science
