Victim Killed In New Cassel Crash Identified: Police

NEW CASSEL, NY — The victim of a fatal weekend crash in New Cassel has been identified.

Oscar Lopez-Melgar, 36, of Westbury, was killed on Sunday night when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Prospect Avenue, authorities said.

The 27-year-old driver stayed at the scene, however, a second vehicle hit Lopez-Melgar and fled, police said.

Lopez-Melgar died a short time later at an area hospital. Police are investigating.
