Calm, Playful, Curious Griffin: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Griffin, approximately 3-and-a-half months old, loves to play tag with other cats, as well as playing with wand toys.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Griffin, a grey semi-long haired boy estimated to be 3-and-a-half months old, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.
Griffin has extraordinary piercing yellow eyes and the softest, silkiest fur, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter. Grey cats are often described as having a calm, laid back demeanor but they can also be playful and curious, according to Larkin.
"Griffin is a combination of all of the above," she said.

Griffin was found wandering all alone in a backyard in Merrick at the beginning of August. Larkin said she has no idea how something like that happens.
"He showed up at a feeding station but clearly he was very young and inexperienced and had a tough time fitting in," she said. "The good Samaritan quickly trapped him, transferred him into a carrier and called a close friend who has lots of experience with kittens and cats and off he went to be fostered until a rescue could be found who would take him, and that was us."

He was a little shy at first but definitely a kitten that just needed some time to adjust to his new surroundings, according to Larkin. He was set up alone at first, but since he appeared to be so
friendly, he was slowly introduced to the other resident cats in the house and also the German Shepherd. He did well with all of the other animals, Larkin said.
"That’s when we got the call…'Can you take him and get him ready for adoption so the foster mom could help someone else that needed it and was in worse shape than Griffin?'" Larkin recalled.
Griffin has been partially vetted. He tested negative for FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, was wormed, had his ears and heart checked, was given his first set of vaccines and is litter box trained. He is scheduled to be neutered this week and available for adoption on Thursday.
"Griffin loves the other cats and loves to play," Larkin said. "While he was in the foster home his favorite game was 'tag you’re it' while pouncing on the others. He loves to do that unexpectedly with the other kittens at the shelter. He also loves any type of wand toy, especially if it has
feathers on it. I guess he thinks he is a great hunter when he catches it. He loves to snuggle in one of the many beds at the shelter and his favorite sleeping position is on his back with his head hanging over the edge. Just wait until you take him home and he claims that position in your king size bed. And when he finally wakes up from his long nap (just like sleeping beauty) he insists on a
snack. He is a bit picky about the flavors he likes but if you place a Churu on top you have a winner!"

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The rescue plans to open 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday for its Kitten Adoption Event.
"This little man deserves a loving home and someone to snuggle with and he is patiently waiting for that special family to come in," Larkin said. "He would do well with another cat(s) in the home and even a dog."
