The Cronin Boys at John’s Crazy Socks to Lead Team at Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics

John Cronin, the Co-Founder and Chief Happiness Officer of John’s Crazy Socks and Abilities Rising, and his brother Jamie are once again diving into freezing waters to support a cause that’s close to his heart. On Saturday, November 22, 2025, they will lead the John’s Crazy Socks Polar Plunge Team at the annual Brookhaven Polar Plunge, held at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai.

The plunge begins at 11:30 a.m., with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. Community members are encouraged to come out, cheer on the plungers, or even join in the icy fun themselves.

John is no stranger to cold water. This year marks his 11th Polar Plunge. As a long-time Special Olympics athlete, John has competed in basketball, soccer, snowshoeing, track and field, and bocce for more than 21 years. He credits the Special Olympics with helping shape his confidence and spirit and even inspiring the creation of John’s Crazy Socks.

“Without the Special Olympics, there would be no John’s Crazy Socks,” said John. “I’ve learned so much from my coaches and teammates, and I want to give back.”

And give back he has. Through his company’s Giving Back Program, John has helped raise over $150,000 for Special Olympics New York, making him the most generous athlete donor in the organization’s history.

This year, he’s plunging with his brother, Jamie Cronin, and inviting Long Islanders to support their team. Donations help cover training, uniforms, and competitions for more than 65,000 athletes across New York State, all at no cost to the athletes or their families.

“We’re freezing for a reason,” said Jamie. “And we’d love for you to join our team or help us reach our fundraising goal.”
