Cop and Fireman Honored at Town Hall Tuesday

Huntington Fire Chief Ken Cochrane and Suffolk County police officer Joseph Lanzisera recognized for rescuing woman from burning apartment.

Two of Suffolk County's finest were honored Tuesday by the Huntington Town Board for the rescue of an 84-year-old woman from her burning apartment last month.

Recognized for "selflessly acting without regard for their own personal safety to help an injured person," Suffolk County police officer Joseph Lanzisera and a Huntington Fire Chief Ken Cochrane upheld high standards of service and dedication to the citizens of Huntington in response to a , according to the proclamation read by Supervisor Frank Petrone at a regular Town Hall meeting.

Responding to the call on the night of the fire, Lanzisera moved through a smoke filled hallway to open the front door to let Cochrane in before together carrying the unresponsive woman to safety, according to police.

The woman suffered second degree burns to her face and hair. Lanzisera suffered smoke inhalation.
