Dogs From Puerto Rico Arrive In Huntington For A Second Chance

The pups will be put up for adoption in about two weeks.

Seven lucky pups arrived in Huntington on Saturday to receive medical care and a second chance after escaping the current travesty in Puerto Rico.

Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center saw a need to step up and aide over inundated shelters from the disaster areas in Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida. The center has already rescued over 50 animals from these areas and many of these pups were placed in loving homes.

Little Shelter says it plans to continue their efforts.

"We have multiple transports set up over the next few months with dogs and cats coming from Texas, Florida and now Puerto Rico," Little Shelter Director David Ceely said in a press release. "This is going to be a long road to recovery and animals are still arriving to over filled shelters every day. We want to help give as many dogs and cats as possible a second chance."

Ceely says donations will greatly benefit the rescue process.

"The more that people donate the more lives we can save," he said. "From surgery to basic medical such as spay/neuter, we take care of each animal before they are available for adoption. On top of that we are paying for all the transport cost, food, beds, toys, and the list goes on."

The dogs will be quarantined for at least two weeks before they are put up for adoption.

Little Shelter is currently running an online donation campaign that will be updated with images of the dogs as they make progress to becoming available.
