HUNTINGTON, NY — Gureet and Govey, around 2 months old, are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week.

These two siblings were found in a residential backyard in Hicksville, according to Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.

Their mom was totally feral, so she was TNR’d, while her two babies were trapped and brought to the shelter by a local rescuer in the beginning of June, Larkin said. They were estimated to be about 6 weeks old at the time and were already eating on their own and not nursing with mom.

"Another sad beginning for this family," Larkin said.

Gureet is a gray and white kitten with an outgoing personality. She is quite the jumper and very inquisitive.

"She is a petite powerhouse," Larkin said. "She loves boxes and the kitty tunnel. She also
loves massages and afternoon naps to recharge. One of her favorite interactions with humans is nose kisses."

Govey is a dark tabby with lots of white fur. He is very loving and gentle, Larkin said. He loves bird watching out the windows and also loves hiding in any open boxes.

"He is the protector of his sister and you can see him bathing her every day," Larkin said. "He also loves massages and afternoon naps to recharge again for more playtime."

They both love climbing to the highest point in the room — "maybe they are afraid they will miss out on something?" Larkin said.

"Gureet and Govey eat hard, play hard and sleep hard," she said. "Then they get up the next day and repeat that cycle. They are currently in an enclosed room to keep them safe and not get lost exploring the entire house, which can happen with kittens because they are so fast..one minute they are in front of you and the next minute they are hiding! But, they are both very inquisitive about what is on the 'other side' of the closed door. Good thing they will not find out anytime soon. They are both with a new foster mom in our program and they are getting lots of love and
attention and socialization to get them ready for entry into the shelter."

They both have been checked by the shelter's in-house veterinarian and have tested negative for FELV and FIV, had their first 2 sets of vaccines, tested negative for parasites, wormed, and will be ready for adoption at the end of July after they are spayed and neutered and receive their last
set of vaccines.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.

"Since most kittens really bond with one another, and these two are no exception, we would like to see both of them adopted together," Larkin said. "The siblings keep one another company, especially if adopted into a very busy and active family. Just look at those two angelic sleeping faces…how can you resist?"
