Harborfields HS Career Transition Class Raises $1.9K For Austism Awareness

GREENLAWN, NY — The Harborfields High School career transition class raised $1,900 for the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America (NSASA), continuing an annual tradition, the Harborfields School District announced. The class raised $700 more than it did last year.

Guided by teacher Rhonda Lebit, the students raised the funds by making, packaging and selling dog treats, greeting cards and other items throughout the school year, a process that provides the students with real-world business experience for life after high school.

NSASA representatives visited the school on June 3 to accept the check and congratulate the class.

NSASA, a parent-run organization serving over 4,000 families on Long Island, works to support individuals with autism in local communities. Through its fundraising efforts, NSASA provides free educational, social, and recreational opportunities to families touched by autism. NSASA also provides grants for technology, classroom materials and community outings to local school programs that serve children with autism.
