Huntington Police Blotter: Safe Stolen In Home Burglary

ALSO: A man used someone else's identification to deposit a check that belonged to them, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from Nov. 18 through Nov. 24.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Nov. 21: Tevin Smith, 30, of Queens, used the personal identification of someone else to deposit a check that belonged to the other person into his own account, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny: property value exceeds $3,000, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree identity theft.
  • Nov. 20: Claudio Velazquez, 50, of Huntington Station, forced entry into a Huntington Station home and stole a safe on March 12, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary: illegal entry into building.

Incidents

  • Nov. 19: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on Melville Road in Huntington Station at 3:51 p.m. Someone stole someone else's identity and used the personal information to take out a loan, police said.
  • Nov. 19: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station at 10:19 a.m. Someone received a phone call from someone they did not know, police said. The scammer told the resident they were behind on their electric bill, police said. It is unknown if the resident gave money to the scammer, police said.
