Huntington Station Lizard Thief Nabbed, Child Protective Services Notified: Police

The woman stole four bearded dragons while she was with her teenage sons, police say.

A woman was arrested on Friday for stealing four pet lizards from a Huntington Station pet store in August while she was with her teenage sons, police say.

According to authorities, Anisa Escobar, 46, of Mount Sinai, and her twin 14-year-old sons entered Selmer's Pet Land, located at 125 East Jericho Turnpike, on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. Police say Escobar cut open the top screen of a reptile enclosure, removed four bearded dragons, which had a value of $1,000, and left the store without paying for them, police say.

Suffolk County Police released a surveillance photo of the incident and numerous Crime Stoppers tips were submitted to help identify Escobar, police say.

Escobar was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. Suffolk County Child Protective Services were notified. Escobar is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
