Huntington Station Student Awarded Firemen’s Association Scholarship
He is one of 20 students who received this scholarship based on his service to the community.

A Huntington Station student and volunteer firefighter has been awarded the 2017 Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship.
Vincent Pastore received a certificate and a $1,500 scholarship for his volunteer service. Eugene Perry, member of the FASNY Board of Directors, presented the award to him.
“It is truly an honor to receive this scholarship from FASNY, an organization that many of my family members are members of,” Pastore said.

The recent high school graduate has been volunteering with the Huntington Manor Fire Department since he began high school. Pastore has various family members who are also members of the department.
“I have been around the fire department my entire life," he said. "Commitment to community is a priority for me; it is part of who I am.”

Pastore is one of 20 students who received this scholarship.
He will be attending the University at Albany in the fall and plans to study homeland security. His career goal is to work for the federal government.
Scholarships are awarded to those who serve the community by serving with a local fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention, and other projects. Additional criteria include consistent demonstration of good character and completion of a written essay.
