One day during a divorce support group, Gina Zuccala and Margery Bukoski met and instantly became friends. A few months later, they held an event at a local venue for singles meeting singles and before they knew it, a business was born: Long Island Single Mingle.
"Our concept is more about meeting people in the same situation with no pressure," Zuccala said. "We find after talking to people that people are nervous about going out by themselves."
To prevent someone from feeling uncomfortable, they tell newcomers to find them and they'llintroduce them to a group of people.
"We like to tell people, do not feel intimidated, always ask for myself or Margery and we'llintroduce them to people," Zuccala said. "That's a lot of feedback that we've got. That it's so comfortable and we make everybody feel warm and welcomed. I feel that's a big asset to our company."
Another major part of their business is the building of friendships.
"It's just about making friends," Bukoski said. "That's what it is for us too. We're out anyway, wenot get a bunch of people together."
Whether it's making friends or a match, people have a group they can go to for a friendly atmosphere.
"There ain't no better singles business out there," Mike Ricciardi said. "Every time I come, I have a great time. It's absolutely excellent. A lot of classy people."
Some attend many events while others are newcomers at Long Island Single Mingle.
"I did a lot of research before I joined," Teri Vitale, a newcomer, said. "Everyone seemed happywith the group and I feel like everyone's really fun."
That's a lot of the feedback the women have gotten.
"A lot of people say that the people are great," Zuccala said. "Everybody's very friendly andsome people say they've made a match and we know some people who have."
Long Island Single Mingle meets every Thursday, and goes to local restaurants.
Recently, they went to Harbor Mist in Cold Spring Harbor.
On May 2 they will have an event at the Founders Club in the Paramount Theater in Huntington village. Single members of the club will have a first shot at the pre-sale tickets.
