Man Partially Saws Off Hand On Long Island

He was airlifted to the hospital Saturday morning.

A man partially severed his hand while operating a power saw in South Huntington on Saturday morning, officials say.

The 40-year-old man was using a miniature circular saw to trim a shrub at a home on Floral Avenue when the incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m., according to fire officials.

He was transported to Countrywood Primary School on Old Country Road by a Huntington Community ambulance, where he was then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk Police helicopter.

Huntington Community First Aid Squad, Huntington Manor Fire Department and Suffolk Police responded to the scene. The man was treated by Huntington Community and Suffolk Police Emergency Medical technicians. Huntington Manor fire engine crew assisted transporting the man to Countrywood Primary School.
