New Details In Grisly Death Of Person Found In Suitcase On LI: Reports
New details have emerged after a suitcase containing human remains was found next to a building on Tuesday morning, police say.
HUNTINGTON, NY — New details have emerged in the grisly case of human remains found in a suitcase in Huntington on Tuesday, according to police.
Officers were called to a wooded area next to 320 Nassau Road at 11:50 a.m. where they found a body in a suitcase next to an apartment complex, Suffolk County police said. The person's identity and cause of death will be determined by an autopsy to be conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, the department said.
No information on the person's gender or identification were available as of Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Smocer told NBC 4 New York that her daughter smelled a strong odor while walking and realized it was coming from a suitcase, the outlet reported. The woman called Smocer to say they should call the police, NBC 4 reported. A foot or a shoe appeared to be hanging out of the luggage, NBC 4 said.
Flavio Ribadeneyra, a Huntington Station resident, told News 12 Long Island that he also noticed the smell on Tuesday morning and called the discovery "unbelievable."

"You would never think that something like that would happen in your building or around your building!" he told News 12 Long Island.
Students leaving school for the day walked by the crime scene after their school bus stopped on Woodhull Road near the yellow tape, Newsday reported.
