Huntington Station Cafe Owner Builds Face Shields In Dining Room
The owner of Zaro's Cafe is using downtime to build plastic face shields for anyone who needs them for coronavirus protection.
HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Edmund Zarou, the owner of Zaro's Cafe in on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, found himself with extra down time at the restaurant during the coronavirus pandemic. He has begun assembling plastic face shields in the empty dining room of the Greek and Italian food eatery.
"I've converted our vacant dining room into a mini face shield factory," he said. He is offering the shields to anyone who needs protection from exposure to coronavirus, to be picked up at the cafe.
Zarou is part of a 3D printing group on Facebook, where instructions about how to print the head pieces were distributed. He told Patch that he first made 80 of the plastic coverings that he then sent to a hospital in Chicago where they were combined with the other parts and used at the hospital. Eventually, he was able to track down all the materials needed to construct the entire face shield. Zarou owns four 3D printers for another business that he's been able to use. He hopes to have 100 fully operational shields ready by next week.
