South Huntington Recognizes Teacher Of The Year

Several other teachers across the district were also recognized.

Several teachers in the South Huntington School District were recognized by the Town Supervisor and Board of Education at the Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony held Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The following teachers were honored:

  • Annmarie Bunce, South Huntington Teacher of the Year
  • Jennifer Yonkers, Birchwood Intermediate School
  • Jeannette DeNuzzo, Oakwood Primary Center
  • Patricia Trebour, Countrywood Primary Center
  • Kristin Trapani, Maplewood Intermediate School
  • Margaret Silvera, Silas Wood 6th Grade Center

Bunce has been teaching in the South Huntington district for the past 30 years.

“Her empathy shows no bounds, showing a warm smile and unconditional love to foster confidence in her students to succeed…she is the driving force within our building and a primary reason for our school’s success,” Walt Whitman High School Principal John Murphy said.

“Ms. Bunce and these exceptional teachers exemplify what our educators should strive for, going beyond what is expected to help students succeed at all levels across the educational spectrum,” said Lupinacci, who is a former South Huntington School District Trustee and graduate of Walt Whitman High School.
