Toys Stolen Days Before Christmas; Huntington Announces Replacement Giveaway Tuesday
The response follows a reported theft at a Huntington Station warehouse, police say.
HUNTINGTON, NY — After toys meant for local children were stolen and damaged just days before Christmas, the Town of Huntington and Empire Toyota announced plans to distribute replacement toys to families in need, town officials said.
The effort follows a reported theft at a Huntington Station warehouse, where toys belonging to the local charity Toys of Hope were taken while stored outside, Suffolk County police said. The theft was reported Saturday night and remains under investigation.
In response, town officials said they are partnering with Empire Toyota and the Huntington Tri-CYA to ensure children who were expecting gifts are not left without toys on Christmas.

According to the town, families who had previously registered with Toys of Hope — as well as other parents or guardians in need — are being asked to contact the Town of Huntington’s Human Services Division to register for the replacement toy distribution.
Registration will be conducted by phone on Tuesday, Dec. 23, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. by calling 631-351-3253, officials said.

Toy distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Huntington Tri-CYA headquarters, located at 809 New York Ave. in Huntington, behind the Big H Shopping Center.
Town officials said the goal is to quickly close the gap left by the theft and ensure children still receive gifts for the holiday.
