Trapped Driver Rescued After Striking Pole In Huntington Station

Police say damage to the pole caused a few homes in the area to lose power.

Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped in her vehicle after crashing into a utility police on Sunday evening in Huntington Station.

According to fire and police officials, a 33-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Hyundai sedan westbound on Old Country Road, between Foxhurst Road and Karbe Place, when her vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole at 9:35 p.m.

Huntington Manor firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" heavy rescue tools to free the trapped driver. She was taken to Huntington Hospital by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

About 30 firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with an engine, two heavy rescue trucks and two ambulances. Units were under the command of HMFD Chiefs DePasquale, Hoffmann, Brady and Glidden. Suffolk Police units were also on the scene, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
