WATCH: Huntington Black Lives Matter Rally Protests Injustice
Protesters gathered in Huntington Village to condemn the police killing of George Floyd.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Monday was a day of peaceful protests across Long Island and the Huntington Village rally followed suit. A young crowd assembled to react to the death of George Floyd and to protest racism and injustice in the criminal system.
Dave Colapietro took the above video video on New York Avenue Monday afternoon and described the event as "very peaceful." The protesters chanted "Take your knee off my neck" and "I can't breathe," words Floyd said moments before he died in police custody.
This rally was the same one that was the target of "racist" comments by the owner of Tutto Pazzo restaurant. Luigi Petrone found himself embroiled in controversy in the community after he recorded a Facebook Live video and made derogatory statements about the protesters.
