Hauppauge Driver Airlifted After Car Slams Into Tractor Trailer In Bohemia: Police

Police say the man's car struck a tractor trailer that was backing into a loading dock.

BOHEMIA, NY — A Hauppauge man was seriously injured in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Bohemia Thursday night, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said the crash occurred at approximately 8:42 p.m. in front of 3030 Veterans Memorial Highway.

Investigators said Jonathan Pinto, 34, of Philadelphia, was driving a 2020 International tractor-trailer and was attempting to back south into a loading dock while blocking all lanes of traffic with hazard lights activated.

While the tractor-trailer was backing up, a 2008 Chevrolet sedan traveling east in the right lane struck the trailer, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Brian Yost, 41, of Hauppauge, was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Pinto was not injured.

Police said the Chevrolet was impounded for a safety check. The Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Unit conducted a post-crash investigation and released the tractor-trailer back to its owner.
