3 Injured, Including Child, In Rollover Crash Between Mini School Bus, Suffolk County Transit Bus: Police

The Suffolk County Transit bus overturned, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Three people, including a child, were injured in a crash between a mini school bus and a Suffolk County Transit bus in Riverhead Wednesday afternoon, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, at about 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Doctors Path and Northville Turnpike after a crash involving a Montauk Bus company mini school bus and a Suffolk County Transit bus, police said.

Upon investigation, it was determined that at the time of the collision, the minibus was traveling northbound on Northville Turnpike while the transit bus was traveling eastbound on Doctors Path, police said.

As a result of the collision, the transit bus overturned, police said.

The mini school bus was carrying a driver, one child passenger and two bus attendants — and the transit bus had a driver and one adult passenger, police said.

The Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department responded and extricated the adult passenger from the transit bus, police said. The child passenger and mini school bus driver, as well as the adult passenger on the transit bus, were transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Mattituck Fire Department ambulance all responded, as well, police said.
