Islip Man Left His 2 Kids in SUV While He Went to Doctor: Cops

A 4-year-old girl and a 1-year old boy were in left in an SUV that was unlocked and not running. The temperature was 35 degrees at the time.

LAKE GROVE, NY – A Long Island man faces child endangerment charges after he left his two young children in his SUV while he attended a doctor's appointment Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to 2233 Nesconset Highway in Lake Grove at 4:20 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that two children had been left alone in a parked 2012 Honda Pilot, which was not running and unlocked, police said.

When officers arrived, they determined the children, a 4-year-old girl and 1-year old boy, had been left in the vehicle by their father, 41-year-old Christopher Evans, for about 20 minutes while he attended a doctor’s appointment, police said. The temperature was approximately 35 degrees at the time.

Evans, of Islip, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.

The children were released to a family member.
