• Islip Town Board declines change to code of ethics (trihamletnews.com) — Islip’s Town Board has tabled a proposal to repeal part of its ethics code that bars elected officials from holding leadership roles in major political parties, directly affecting incoming councilwoman and GOP vice chair DawnMarie Kuhn. With the rule still in place for now, Kuhn must give up her party leadership post unless the board reverses course before her January inauguration.

• Bayport-Blue Point has playoffs on radar (suffolkcountynews.net) — Bayport-Blue Point’s girls basketball team is chasing a return to the playoffs after narrowly missing last year, highlighted by a strong showing at the Islip Tournament where senior guard Conner Leahy scored 24 points. With only eight varsity players but plenty of multi-sport talent, the Phantoms are leaning on speed, defense, and senior leadership as they resume league play in early January.
