MacArthur Airport Says No Major Impact From FAA Flight Reductions

Some major New York airports are bracing for a 10 percent flight cut amid the ongoing government shutdown.

ISLIP, NY — As the Federal Aviation Administration moves to reduce flights at major airports nationwide amid ongoing staffing shortages, Long Island MacArthur Airport said it is not seeing any significant impact to its operations.

“Being a smaller airport, we are fortunate to not have any significant impact, delays or cancellations at this moment,” airport officials said in a statement Friday. “Customers with travel scheduled are advised to be alert to air carrier communication and to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date information.”

The airport also thanked air traffic controllers and TSA agents at MacArthur and across the system, encouraging travelers to offer “an extra nod and grateful greeting” as they head into the busy travel season.

The FAA on Thursday said it plans to reduce flights by about 10 percent in “high-volume markets” to maintain safety during the government shutdown, now entering its second month.

John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark airports are among those affected.
