Islip won't lift ban on town officials serving in party leadership posts (newsday.com) — Islip town officials have decided to keep a 2016 rule that bars Town Board members from simultaneously holding leadership roles in political parties, directly affecting a newly elected Republican councilmember. The board’s Republican majority tabled a proposal to repeal the ban, with supporters arguing dual roles create conflicts and undermine public trust, while local party leaders remain divided on the policy’s merits.
   

3. Strangulation Charge Filed After Road Rage Altercation In Huntington: Police (patch.com) — A Central Islip man has been charged after police say a road rage dispute in Huntington turned into an assault and strangulation on Broadhollow Road. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, underscoring a serious incident involving a local resident.
   

4. Man Crashes Corvette, Stolen From New Jersey, Into Guardrail On Long Island Expressway: Police (patch.com) — A Farmingville man is facing multiple charges after police say he crashed a stolen Corvette on the Long Island Expressway and is now being held for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip. The early-morning crash near Exit 60 in Ronkonkoma followed an alleged 90-mph speed spree, and detectives later determined the car had been stolen from a New Jersey dealership.
   

5. Lead found in school drinking water on Long Island (newsnationnow.com) — Several school districts serving Islip families, including Central Islip, East Islip, and Islip Union, have tested above state limits for lead in drinking water. Affected fountains must be shut off, alternative water provided, and remediation plans launched, with parents and staff notified as the state monitors follow-up testing.
