Affected fixtures must be shut off while schools provide alternative water, notify families and staff, and carry out remediation plans followed by new testing to ensure safer drinking water for students.

2. Man Killed After Being Struck By Intoxicated Box Truck Driver ID'd: Police (patch.com) β€” A Central Islip man driving a box truck has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a Thursday morning crash in Bethpage that fatally injured 32-year-old Farmingdale resident Gino Vargas. Police say the southbound truck struck Vargas’s Kia as it exited a parking lot on Hicksville Road, and the investigation into additional charges remains ongoing.

High Winds Cause Power Outages Across Suffolk County: PSEG (patch.com) β€” Hundreds of Islip residents were without power Friday afternoon as strong winds and heavy rain knocked out electricity to about 612 customers locally and nearly 9,000 across Suffolk County. PSEG Long Island crews are working on repairs, with many restoration times estimated around midnight Saturday, though that may change as the stormy weather continues.

Man Crashes Corvette, Stolen From New Jersey, Into Guardrail On Long Island Expressway: Police (patch.com) β€” A man accused of crashing a reportedly stolen Corvette on the Long Island Expressway is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, tying the high-speed incident back to local courts. Police say the Farmingville driver fled on foot after the Ronkonkoma crash and now faces multiple charges, including possessing stolen property and impaired driving.
