Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Continues Monday Through Tuesday: LI Weather

The area is under a slight flooding risk, as heavy rain continues through Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Possible flash flooding, a high rip current risk are in effect on Long Island, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected Monday and Tuesday.

A frontal system will bring multiple rounds of shower and thunderstorms in through Monday night, the National Weather Service said.

Damaging winds will be the main threat. In addition, a brief tornado will be possible, the service said.

Much of the area is under a slight risk for flash flooding, with a slight to enhanced risk for severe weather, primarily west of the Hudson River.

Thunderstorms are also expected on Tuesday morning, and heavy rain will continue throughout the afternoon.

A rip current statement was also issued at 6 a.m. on Monday, and is in effect until 9 p.m.

Skies are predicted to clear up on Wednesday, and rain will be on pause until Thursday night.

Monday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between noon and 5 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind 11 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. West wind around 15 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers after 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers before 3 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.
