Town of Islip Cancels Apple Fest Due To COVID Concerns
The festival was planned for September 18, but for the second year in a row the outdoor event will not take place due to the pandemic.

SAYVILLE, NY—The Town of Islip's fall Apple Festival was supposed to return after being canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But on Thursday, town officials announced that rising concerns over Long Island's COVID-19 positivity rate, the outdoor fall event will be canceled.
Islip Town posted the news on social media, stating "Due to the rising COVID positivity rate, and in an effort to keep residents safe, we have regrettably canceled the Apple Fest."
The festival was planned for September 18 at the Islip Grange in Sayville.

Some commented on the town Facebook page questioning why an outdoor concert had to be nixed, while others said they felt it was the right decision.
The latest health department numbers show Suffolk County saw a rise in case positivity this week. The seven-day average for positivity on Long Island was up 4.42% by Thursday, compared to 0.35% in June.
