Woman, 3 Dogs Rescued From Islip Terrace Fire: Police
Authorities rescued a woman trapped in her basement and later found and rescued three dogs from a house fire Sunday.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY — First responders rescued a woman and her three dogs from a house fire in Islip Terrace on Sunday, according to police.
The fire occurred at 4 Cleveland St. around 11 a.m., according to authorities.
Off-duty Suffolk County police officer Jared Gunst, who also is a volunteer firefighter, responded to the fire and went inside the house searching for the woman. A 911 call was placed from the woman, who told dispatchers she was in the basement.

Islip Terrace firefighters broke out the basement window and helped the woman, 19, get out of the house. She was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Gunst, along with firefighters from the Islip and East Islip, found the three dogs and brought them out of the fire. Gunst, who has medical training to assist police canines, provided medical treatment to two of the dogs. All three are expected to survive, authorities said.
