Christmas Day Crash Kills Driver In Jackson Heights, Police Say
An Elmhurst man slammed into another car on Christmas Day after having a medical episode behind the wheel, police said.

JACKSON HEIGHTS, NY — An Elmhurst man died in a Christmas Day car crash after suffering a medical episode behind the wheel in Jackson Heights, police said. Wilfredo Alvarez, 60, had an "apparent cardiac episode" while heading west on Roosevelt Avenue in his 1991 Honda Civic early Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.
Alvarez lost control of his car and slammed into the front of an empty Toyota Rav 4, police said. Cops found him unconscious inside the car at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Elbertson Street around 1:20 a.m., the NYPD said.
Alvarez was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center and pronounced dead there, according to police. The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
