Back To The Beach: Annual Mamaroneck Tiki Invasion Returns Friday
The mellow notes of the ukulele are once again in the sea air. The party of the year is bigger and better after a long pandemic pause.

MAMARONECK, NY — Let's face it, we all deserve a tropical vacation after the last couple of years, but we're still putting holiday travel plans on hold until the airlines get their act together. Fortunately, the perfect exotic beach adventure is on the itinerary and it doesn't require a trip to the airport.
Grab your tiki attire because the 5th Annual "Tiki Invasion" will drift into town this Friday. Complete with fire dancers, leis, grass skirts and tiki torches, this is the chance of the year to lose ourselves in a tropical paradise while staying close to home.
The long-awaited party of the summer at Harbor Island's Stephen E. Johnston Beach is returning this Friday at 6 p.m., after a long pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The all-in-one luau/beach party/movie night, co-hosted by the Village of Mamaroneck Recreation Department and LMC Media, will feature a variety of Polynesian-themed activities, drinks and food. Each guest will be greeted with a lei and adults will receive complimentary drinks.

"We are always thrilled to see our beautiful Harbor used as the backdrop for one of the best community events of the year," Village of Mamaroneck Recreation Supervisor Jason Pinto said. "It’s fun for the whole family and shows the true spirit of the Friendly Village. Thank you to LMC Media for our invaluable partnership in planning this event."
Food trucks, live music from the Televisionaries, a limbo contest, a children's bubble show, fire dancers and a showing of "Lilo and Stitch" make the Tiki Invasion a "can't miss" event for Mamaroneck and other Sound Shore residents. This year's event will have a new photobooth in a vintage VW bus on the beach, powered by New Rochelle's NY Photobus.

"This is one of our favorite events of the year," said Executive Director of LMC Media Matt Sullivan. "We have the pleasure of working with the talented and dedicated staff of the Village of Mamaroneck Parks and Recreation Departments to co-host this event. We’re hoping to make a big comeback after the two year pandemic pause. But it’s given us time to create a night you won’t forget."

Admission and parking are free and the event is open to the public. The rain date will be Saturday, July 16.
This year's Tiki Invasion was sponsored by M&T Bank, Halftime and Varmax Liquor Pantry.
