MAMARONECK, NY — The town's seventh annual Compost Giveaway Day is Saturday.

"Thank you for recycling your food scraps with the Village of Larchmont/Town of Mamaroneck Food Scrap Recycling Program. You have created tons of beautiful, rich compost with your food scraps and we'd like to give you some — for free!" the Food Scrap Recycling Committee and Town of Mamaroneck Sustainability Collaborative said on the town website.

It's a popular event. Compost is shoveled up and hauled away by food scrap recyclers, home gardeners and residents — many of whom bring their food scraps to the Maxwell Avenue facility during the year.
