Con Edison Distributing Dry Ice To Customers Who Lost Power

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Con Edison officials estimate that power has been restored to 95 percent of its customers as of noon Friday.

The utility is distributing dry ice at two locations in Westchester County to customers who lost power due to Post Tropical Cyclone Ida. The company will also have mobile information centers available at the distribution locations until 8 p.m. to answer customers’ questions.

The dry ice distribution locations are located near some of the areas in the county hardest hit by power outages:

  • Mamaroneck Town Parking Lot (Parking lot A) 1 Vine St. (intersection Myrtle Blvd) in Larchmont
  • Andrus Park Central Park Avenue and Arlington Street in Yonkers

Distribution of dry ice will continue until 8 p.m. or until supplies run out.

Instructions for safe handling and disposal of dry ice are printed on the bag containing the ice. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide and should be used only in well-ventilated areas. Officials caution that children and pets should be kept safely away from dry ice.

The company said it is following safety guidelines issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the state, the city and the county for COVID-19. Customers are asked to practice social distancing while waiting in line and when interacting with Con Edison representatives.
