Free Compost Day Is Back: Larchmont Has What Your Garden Craves

It's time to pick up free compost and celebrate the success of the Food Scraps Recycling Program this Saturday.

LARCHMONT/MAMARONECK, NY — We just have to trust that some of the things we do for the environment will pay off down the road, but with composting, the benefits can be seen growing right in front of us.

It's the time of the year for residents of the unincorporated area of the Town of Mamaroneck and the Village of Larchmont (proof of residency may be required) to get their free compost and take a moment to celebrate the success of the Food Scraps Recycling Program.

The event will take place at the Maxwell Ave. Recycling Center on Saturday, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Bring your own shovel. The maximum container size will be 35 gallons.

Residents must wait in their cars with their engines off until it is their turn to pick up the compost. It is requested that residents limit their time at the compost pile in order to accommodate others.

The event will be held rain or shine.

For those not already recycling food scraps, food scrap kits will be available for sale at the Maxwell Ave. Recycling Center for $20. Cash or checks made out to "LMJGDC" will be accepted as payment.
